Joshua 4:6–7

Here Is A 5 Day Devotional From Todays Sermon

Day 1 – Never Forget What God Has Done

Scripture: “So these stones shall be to the Israelites a memorial forever.” — Joshua 4:7 (NRSV)

Commentary: God told His people to build memorials so they would never forget His faithfulness. We need those reminders too—markers of His mercy and miracles in our own lives. In hard seasons, we can look back and remember: God saw me through before, and He’ll do it again. Forgetfulness leads to fear, but remembrance strengthens our faith. Take time today to recall the moments when God showed up for you—you’ll find joy returning as gratitude fills your heart.

Prayer: Lord, help me never forget Your goodness. Remind me of Your past faithfulness every time I face new challenges. Let gratitude and remembrance revive my joy. Amen.

Day 2 – Stop the Complaining Cycle

Scripture: “Now when the people complained, it displeased the Lord.” — Numbers 11:1 (NKJV)

Commentary: Complaining may seem harmless, but it drains our joy and displeases God. The Israelites saw miracles, yet grumbled anyway—and lost sight of His blessings. It’s easy to slip into that same pattern when things get tough. But every complaint we silence becomes an act of praise. Every time we choose faith over frustration, we invite joy back in. Today, let’s stop mid-complaint, breathe, and thank God instead of grumbling.

Prayer: Father, forgive me when I complain. Help me turn my words from negativity to praise. Teach me to see the blessings You’ve already given me. Amen.

Day 3 – Choose Gratitude Every Day

Scripture: “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!” — Philippians 4:4 (NKJV)

Commentary: Walking in joy doesn’t just happen, it’s a choice. Paul rejoiced from a prison cell, proving that gratitude isn’t about comfort; it’s about perspective. When we decide to thank God anyway, even when life is hard, something shifts inside us. Worry gives way to peace. Complaints turn into contentment. Joy takes root again. Today, look for one blessing, just one, and whisper a quiet “thank You.” It might be small, but gratitude grows with every seed of praise.

Prayer: Lord, I choose to rejoice today—even in the middle of my struggles. Teach me to find something good in every circumstance and give You thanks. Amen.

Day 4 – Contentment Is the Key

Scripture:
“I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.” — Philippians 4:11 (NIV)

Commentary: The world tells us to chase more—more things, more success, more comfort. But joy isn’t found in “more”; it’s found in enough. Paul learned this secret: contentment doesn’t come from what we have; it comes from who holds us. Gratitude blooms when we stop comparing and start counting blessings. True joy is knowing that Christ alone is our portion and peace, no matter what season we’re in.

Prayer: Jesus, teach me to be content in You. Quiet the voices that tell me I need more. Help me see that You are enough, today and always. Amen.

Day 5 – Remember Daily and Give Thanks

Scripture: “Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God.” — Daniel 6:10 (NIV)

Commentary: Daniel made gratitude a daily discipline—even while living in a hostile culture. Joy doesn’t stay alive by accident; it takes daily practice. Every morning, noon, and night, Daniel stopped to thank God. What if we started each day the same way? Thanking God not just for big blessings, but for breath in our lungs, grace in our hearts, and His presence in every moment. Gratitude keeps us grounded in remembrance and overflowing with joy.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me make gratitude my daily habit. Remind me to pause often and give You thanks. Let a thankful heart be the constant rhythm of my life. Amen.
